eBay, GJEPC in pact to endorse gems, jewellery via e-commerce

New Delhi: E-Commence giant eBay on Thursday entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) to promote gems and jewellery trade through the e-commerce medium. eBay and GJEPC also announced their intention to expand the business-to-consumer (B2C) trade of precious stones and metals across the globe.
"The whole world is going digital. As against the L-shaped recovery predicted by the economists post-pandemic, e-commerce and digitisation has saved not only our industry but many other sectors as well," said Colin Shah, Chairman, GJEPC, at a press conference.
Through the cycle of e-commerce, the two companies would ensure quality service for its consumers in 200 countries as well as offer delivery within 72 hours, he added.
GJEPC said that they are working with the central government for comprehensive e-commerce policy for gems and jewellery for SEZ and DTA exporters. The council mentioned that the 300 clusters which are engaged in jewellery craftmanship would be benefited with this partnership with eBay.

Vidmay Naini, County Manager, eBay, said that eBay will offer its basic store subscription of $27.95/month to GJEPC members, free for three months from the date of registration sign-up eBay marketplace.
